3 Myths that are Stopping You from Scheduling Your Personal Branding Photo Session

Don’t let these three myths stop you from creating your dream photos today.

  1. It’s too expensive.

Yep, it seems like a professional photoshoot can seem like a big expense, but I can’t stress enough how investing in a professional photo session will change your mind forever.

Don’t think of it as an expense. It’s not! You need to think of it as an investment. An investment that will help promote you and your business over and over again. After one session, you will have over 100 high-resolution, high-quality, professionally-edited images that you can use in marketing campaigns, social media postings, websites, printed brochures, business cards, and so much more! The images can provide the foundation of your business marketing plan and help share your messaging and story for many, many months to come. (My return clients schedule one personal branding session with me once every twelve months, with mini-shoots scheduled in between for special events or specific promotions that need dedicated images.) Add the photo session to your annual marketing plan and is usually the least expensive investment made in their annual budget. You can afford this investment with careful planning, and I promise you that you will not regret it.

2. I don’t have time.

You are busy, I get it. You are building your business, networking, and hustling. Do you have time to spend a half-day with me to create quality professional branding images that can be used to promote your services? YES!

Not having enough time is the fallacy that comes when you think about the time it takes to create or find your own photos. You are trying to snap your own photos or have a friend take them. You have to cull through the burst of shots that you took, find the one or two that look decent, and then edit them for lighting, flyaways, and color. Or, you get sucked down the rabbit hole of looking for stock images that are just not quite right for your unique messaging and your authentic story. Before you know it, hours have passed, and all you have are two decent-looking photos to use in your marketing. You are right, you don’t have time for that!

Alternatively, a half-day spent with a professional branding photographer will actually save you time because once you are done, you have an amazing bank of images that you can rely on and use for the rest of the year! Our time together is efficient and focused. You don’t have to inspect each photo to crop, color correct, and make edits, I do that! The images have been tailor-made to share YOUR story, promote YOUR business, and shine on YOUR Best Self. You don’t have to spend tons of time trying to take professional-looking selfies or search the internet black hole for your perfect shot. They are waiting for you in your bank of images that we have already created.

If you are ready to pivot or powerup your business, promote your services and attract a higher-end clientele, you’ll want to make time in your schedule for a professional branding photoshoot. Together we can find the time to make it work.

3. I don’t need a pro because my trusty iPhone takes great photos

I know, I know. There are times when you or your bestie can snap a few photos that make you look fabulous. But let’s be honest, most of those are few and far between. Selfies are not super professional and the one friend who knows your best side isn’t always available when you are free.

Working with someone who makes a living helping people look good in photos, will give you a higher level of expertise in lighting, posing, color, composition, wardrobe, and professional editing. You won’t have to worry about something being in your teeth, striking an unflattering pose, or missing that tree in the background that looks like it’s coming out of your head!

And, as you know, because you are building your own brand and reputation, having passion and expertise in what you do is important. Because I have years of experience in marketing and leadership, the photos we create together will focus on helping you look and feel fabulous while supporting your branding and marketing goals. Together, we create your images with intent.

The point about a personal branding session being an investment that yields over 100 images for marketing really shifted my perspective. It makes so much sense to plan for it as part of your annual budget rather than seeing it as a one-off expense. I can see how a tool like grid maker could help organize all those resulting photos for different campaigns.

Reading through ZEnhancer really made me rethink the whole "photoshoot is an expense" mindset. The point about getting over 100 high-quality images from a single session for all your marketing is something I never fully appreciated before. That really changes the value proposition entirely.

I really liked how you broke down the expense myth, especially the point about ending up with over 100 high-resolution images that can fuel your marketing for months. That reframing from cost to investment is exactly the mindset shift I needed. I actually just found a great community resource on this called Bizarre Lineage Wiki that dives deeper into building visual brand assets.

I love how you frame the investment angle—having that library of over 100 images really does change the game for marketing, and it’s something I see echoed in Neverness to Everness Wiki. That myth about cost being a barrier is so common, but the long-term value is undeniable once you break it down.

I totally agree that the cost can feel intimidating at first, but thinking of it as an investment in content that works for months really shifts the perspective. For anyone on the fence, I found a helpful breakdown of the return side of things over at ScopeQuill. The part about getting over 100 images from a single session is what sold me on finally booking mine.
